« What we know – and what we do not know – about the relationship between student learning and learning spaces »

Résumé :

We have a rapidly changing learning landscape in higher education, and an important post-pandemic question is what education on campus will look like in the future? In the ongoing discussion, campus spaces are regarded to be indispensable places for learning, even if we move towards blended and hybrid solutions. This means that universities will have to rethink what a campus space can be to ensure that HE remains an embodied and communal experience. To support that re-thinking, I argue that we can learn much from pre-pandemic knowledge production on teaching and learning in campus spaces. But what does that knowledge production look like?

In this presentation I will initiate a discussion on what we know — and do not know — about relationship between student learning and learning spaces. The discussion takes its starting point in a recently published systematic literature review on formal learning spaces in Higher Education.
